3.Integrated Design Process Training – Session 1A, 1B, 1C & 2
Date: July 27 – August 11, 2009

Overview:
This series of sessions will focus on the integrated design process (IDP) and give the affordable housing professional community in DC metro region a strong skill set to incorporate IDP into their projects. The workshops address fundamental components of implementation: interpersonal, team dynamics, and technical tools and metrics.

2.Green & Energy Retrofit Training
Date: July 21– 22, 2009
Location: TBD
Time: 8:30-5pm
Cost: $200

Overview: This class will train professionals how to understand the home the way a doctor understands the body. Conduction, convection and radiation heat transfer mechanisms, as related to specific areas of the home, are explored in detail. These principles are the basis of understanding how homes work and how to treat the problems of comfort, mold, indoor air quality and energy efficiency. Energy retrofit projects will be prioritized by the value to the homeowner and the cascading sequence of approaches that optimize the effectiveness in saving energy. A home energy retrofit certificate will be provided upon completion of the course.

4.Weatherization Training
Date: September 11 – September 12, 2009
Location: TBD
Time: 4 hour classroom session, 4 hour field training, 1 day basic weatherization course
Cost: $100

Overview: Weatherization training is designed to meet the education needs of industry professionals working to retrofit existing building stock. It focuses on the “low hanging fruit” of energy conservation measures; sealing, caulking, weather stripping, hot water pipe insulation and other fundamental retrofit measures. These techniques are necessary to weatherize over 90% of the housing stock in the DC metro area.

5.Existing Buildings and Energy Star Portfolio Manager Series– The Complete Toolkit, Part 1, 2 & 3

Overview: Existing buildings represent the greatest challenges and opportunities as cities around the world become more sustainable and energy efficient. Presented in three parts, the first will feature experts on the latest local and national changes in building codes, Green Building legislation, and a whole range of other environmental and energy related hot topics. The second will focus on a new Green Business certification program that enables companies to benchmark the sustainability of their own internal operations, while preparing to be certified as a Green Business. The final session will focus on how and why to earn the Energy Star label, and the reasons why it is an industry preference.

6.Stormwater Management and Tree Canopy Session

Overview: The course will introduce innovative practices for protection and restoration of watershed hydrology, stormwater management, protection of receiving waters, Combined Sewer Overflows, and nonpoint pollution control. Attendees will be introduced to a new perspective in urban stormwater management and will gain a practical understanding of how to apply new technological solutions for watershed and water resources protection.
New technology involves multiple disciplines and has far reaching impacts in urban stormwater management, land use planning, water resources protection, site planning/design, best management practices, building requirements and construction and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure.

7.Creating Healthy Housing

Overview: This training will help stakeholders understand the connection between health and housing and how to take a holistic approach to identify and resolve problems, which threaten the health and well-being of residents.
Everyone from a public health nurse visiting a client to an environmental health professional doing a rodent inspection will gain insight into how housing and health are related and actions they can take to improve the health of their clients.
